NYS DOH Commissioner Releases Provider Letter Referencing the HUD Smoke-Free Ruling and the Importance of Treating Tobacco Dependence
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) ruled in April 2017 that all local Public Housing authorities within the U.S. implement a smoke-free policy by July 31, 2018. The ruling does not require residents to stop using tobacco products, but does prohibit use of combustible tobacco products anywhere inside HUD housing, and within 25 feet of HUD buildings. The letter released July 2nd, 2018 by NYS DOH Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker notifies care providers of the impending Smoke-Free Housing Ruling and the importance of treating Tobacco Dependence.
